Design Ideologies
JL Audio’s engineering department is at the forefront of research into fundamental loudspeaker behaviour. JL Audio has developed proprietary analysis systems and invested heavily in state-of-the-art manufacturing and testing. This has borne numerous products widely considered as reference standards and has also resulted in many U.S. and International Patents issued for technologies that refine and extend the audio performance envelope.
Built Like No Other
Every W6v3 subwoofer is built to exacting quality standards in JL Audio’s factory in Miramar, Florida. All models are completely original designs from surround to back-plate, even the bolts and screws used in assembly have been purpose-designed and manufactured to its specifications. Sure it might be a bit obsessive, but so is the quest for the ultimate in audio reproduction. A goal that JL Audio pursue with passion, through research and without compromise.
Design Features
W6v3 subwoofers share key groundbreaking technologies with their flagship W7 brethren resulting in distortion levels well below audibility throughout the driver’s dynamic range. In addition to these technologies the W6v3 series also incorporates an innovative cooling structure that efficiently channels air around the voice coil to optimize power handling and fidelity. The suspension design features a rubber surround for enhanced durability and a large-diameter progressive roll spider for linear compliance over the woofer’s excursion range. W6v3 cones are injection-moulded, mineral-filled polypropylene and feature a silver accent ring that creates a classy look in combination with the satin black cast alloy basket. All W6v3 subwoofers offer dual 4-ohm voice coils that can be wired in series for an 8 ohm load, or in parallel for a 2 ohm load.
The W6v3 subwoofers models offer impressive linear excursion along with highly powerful magnetic systems that have been optimized via JL Audio’s proprietary DMA technology to maintain a highly stable magnetic field over the entire excursion envelope of the driver. This leads directly to significant reductions in audible distortion and creates a tighter, more accurate low-frequency presentation in your vehicle, at any listening level.
These are quite simply the best JL Audio W6 subwoofers ever, and that is saying something! However rather than stating what’s obvious upon your first listen, let’s take a look at the features in a little more detail.
Customizable Trim Ring
This removable ring can be painted to match the installation theme. It is designed to hold the JL Audio grille mesh inserts perfectly. These grilles are sold separately.
Dynamic Motor Analysis
JL Audio’s proprietary Dynamic Motor Analysis system is a powerful suite of FEA-based modelling systems, first developed by JL Audio in 1997 and refined over the years to scientifically address the issue of speaker motor linearity. This leads to vastly reduced distortion and faithfully reproduced transients… or put simply: tight, clean, articulate bass.
Elevated Frame Cooling
JL Audio’s patented elevated frame cooling design delivers cool air through slots directly above the top plate to the voice coil of the speaker. This not only enhances power handling, but also sound quality by minimizing dynamic parameter shifts and power compression.
Engineered Lead-Wire System
Carefully engineered lead-wire design and attachments ensure controlled, quiet lead-wire behaviour under the most extreme excursion demands.
Floating Cone Attach Method
This assembly technique, conceived by JL Audio; ensures proper surround geometry in the assembled speaker for better excursion control and dynamic voice coil alignment.
Terminal Jumper System
The W6v3 subwoofers are equipped with dual voice coils that must both be connected correctly to the amplifier in series or parallel for the subwoofer to operate properly. This jumper system features push terminals located behind the main input connectors. These allow for easy interconnection between the voice coils to configure the subwoofer in a way that best suits your amplifier.
Pole-Vent Airflow Control
In high powered subwoofers thermal management is essential. A bullet shaped structure positioned inside the pole vent directs airflow and increases air velocity to effectively reduce voice coil temperature, leading to improved fidelity and reliability.
