Design Ideologies
Whilst designing the Pro series of amplifiers the most complex and important choice was to integrate digital sound processors into some of the models. This allows compete tailoring and tuning for any audio system within the confines of just one box. Thus saving on space and additional costs such as RCA interconnects. Whilst only some of the Pro range employ the on-board processor technology; the entire range enjoys the technological benefits and advancements made during the development phase.
Switching Methodology
The eight channel 8/30 DSP is the model that best exhibits this unique solution. Uncompromising in design, aside from its eight channels of AB class power it also includes an integrated twelve channel digital sound processor. So not only does it process the eight internal channels, it also includes four processed pre-outs at eight Volts to power addition amplifiers. This gives you control over almost all imaginable system configurations possible.
Design Features
Although all Pro amplifiers are unique in their own right; they do share various technologies too. We canvas these below.
Cooling Things Down
All Pro series amplifiers are equipped with cooling fans located strategically upon the main board. These take the air from the amplification components before flowing it over the electronic circuits thence expelling it from specific grilles arranged upon the top sides of the amplifier. This system prevents excessive internal temperatures and evenly cools the heat sink and internals, removing heat from the hot parts withing the topology. The fan is controlled electronically by a microprocessor depending on the temperature when in operation. The fan first starts at low speed at lower temperatures however if environmental conditions and high power increase the amplifiers internal temperature it will run at full speed until the thermal protection kicks, which is a threshold difficult to reach. In doing this the amplifier enjoys a significant reduction in disturbance caused by the movement of the fan.
Bedrock Solid Casing
The case is modeled in such a way as to enjoy the best of both strength and thermal efficiency worlds. It’s a die-cast aluminium affair featuring two primary lengths of extruded aluminium. Upon these lengths the power transistors are set using cap screws. This ensures good heat conduction by distributing it throughout the heat sink. The large cap screws and beautiful topology are clearly visible through the mesh top vents.
Modular Architecture
The Pro series amplifiers are built with a modular distancing structure. The signal control circuits are separated from the power supply and power signals. In doing this Mosconi avoid any possible interference to the signal. Furthermore it was able to install circuit board wiring of large gauge in order to withstand high current loads.
The power supply stage features transformers stabilised with pulse width modulation or PWM; a system that allows you to have the same power delivery even with the engine off and the voltage is lowered to the battery level. The amplifier performance remains unchanged even with the most difficult loads, allowing an acoustic result characterised by refined and transparent tonal qualities. In addition, these amplifiers have a stabilised power supply able to drive the most challenging loads. For example if a load occasionally falls below the safety limit, perhaps the result of some frequency zones with complex systems of crossovers and speakers; the Pro series amplifiers reduce the power supply voltage and consequently the maximum peak power to continue operating even with load values of below one Ohm.
Amplifier Management Processor
At the heart of the Pro series amplifiers is the management processor, a microprocessor system that manages and controls the entire amplifier and keeps the power system under constant analysis from the amplifier to the power supply sections. This system is not limited to managing the electronics either. For with the same precision and timeliness it monitors in real-time the amplifier status and reports back through different colouring on the LED. These indicate potential malfunctions or failures within the audio system. This information thenceforth let’s you identify why there’s an issue. In case of danger protections cuts in preventing any potential damage occuring.
Ergonomics
Ergonomics is another important feature. The control panels are located on top for easy adjustments, after installation are protected by a cover. On the face are recessed terminal ports which serve to protect the cables when connected. The filter section is complete with a by-pass to be connected to external processors with analog outputs. On the input side of operation the unit has RCA input connections about to accept either low voltage or high voltage, meaning they can work happily with either OEM or aftermarket input signals. These inputs are equipped with an automatic sensing remote and an input for external volume control is also present via a small port.
