Design Ideologies
InPol Heritage represents the projectual legacy of the late Pathos co-founder, designer and inventor of InPol; engineer Giani Borinato. The team of Pathos technical designers pushed themselves to the very highest level with this unprecedented project; an enormous amount of time was spent with this product, which is characterised by components of the highest quality and the customary absence of compromises.
Digital Bias
The digital bias/gain set technology with intelligent control is entrusted to the same microprocessor which regulates the volume, thus guaranteeing the performance of the amplifier itself and its ability to drive the loudspeakers efficiently. Thanks to the optional HiDac Mk2 converter, music lovers who want the very best from the latest digital sources will find their demands fully met.
Legacy Methodolgies
With the experience of the new InPoL2 MkII and the InPoL Legacy, we modified the InPoL Heritage consequently. The power supply section doubled, therefore the amplifier is dual mono. We added one heat sink that increases the radiating surface and allows better placement of the MOSFETs. Thanks to these improvements, we got a better dynamic, most of all on the low frequencies, and we enhanced the power depending on the impedance. The power remains the same, and so does the aesthetic design. The unit is 14cm longer than the old one, and it is provided with new sealed VU meters and WBT speaker terminals.
The Purest Class A
InPoL (Inseguitore Pompa Lineare or linear pump follower) is a system patented by Pathos Acoustics which has enjoyed great success and won many awards. Inpol devices have a special sonic personality obtainable only by means of this particular circuit design – fully balanced in Class A using a single solid state component in follower configuration, with high current gain and with voltage gain together. The valve amplifier amplifies the input signal voltage and InPol supplies the current to drive the loudspeakers without any further amplification. In this way the signal is entrusted to the valves and becomes a true copy of the original, with all the quality, purity and harmonic content of the original.
This technology allows an increase in the theoretical output in pure Class A of between 25% and 50% together with a low output impedance which is fundamental for the damping factor, and further improved by the double InPol. InPol Heritage is a fully-balanced pure Class A integrated amplifier using the latest generation double-InPol circuitry.
Its generous 80-watts of InPol power will drive any type of loudspeaker between 4 and 8 Ohms, and create an incredible and emotionally-moving sound-stage. Thanks to the (optional) HiDac Mk2 board, InPoL Heritage will be able to receive all your music from your PC by USB or from a digital source by S/PDIF.
Exploring InPoL – Pathos’ Patented Technology
The early theory influencing the whole InPoL project comes out to avoid any kind of general output-input back-feedback. It is claimed that, despite a fine developed back-feedback implies important benefits; it is considered always something artificial. This influences the sonic outcome and causes a loss of naturalness and spikiness. A good project not including the use of back-feedback implies on the other hand a higher rate of conversion and a slightly poorer damping factor, to put up with naturalness and harmony of the actual signal.
InPoL was born from this design theory. Developing a power stage without any back-feedback, featuring a limited distortion and a satisfactory damping factor. For this purpose it has been used a single solid-state component in follower configuration, with hypothetical voltage gain = 1 and with high current gain. Polarization is in pure Class A to avoid crossover distortions, typical of Class AB stages. Only solid-state NPNs are used, which are totally different from PNP ones; this difference could only be solved by back feedback. InPoL makes use of a big inducer as energy supply, which is driven by a transistor as a controlled current generator. In so doing the theoretical efficiency is doubled from 25 % to 50 % and low impedance is achieved, necessary to get a correct damping factor.
InPoL features an amplification factor of 1 when current is provided, so it copies the signal received from the input, without changing the harmonic content and keeping the signal naturalness unchanged. The only task of InPoL is therefore supplying the necessary current for driving the loudspeakers perfectly. InPoL is a worldwide patent.
