Design Ideologies
The very definition of an audiophile is a fanatic whose sole passion is accurate sound reproduction, one that indeed brings to life all the purity of a live performance. It is a familiar term with high-end home gear, however many consider it all but unattainable in the automotive environment. Luckily Zapco disagrees, proving this time and time again since it’s conception in 1974 that is has a penchant for perfecting sonic reproduction. In 2000 it introduced the C2K competition amplifiers and in 2012 it introduced the new Z series amplifiers. Amplifiers that were jammed packed with high-end internal components, designed for the ultimate in pure sound quality.
Praise Aplenty
Upon their release audiophiles praised the Z series amplifiers, some calling them the best ever designed. However rather than rest of its laurels Zapco decided it could do better. Thenceforth it upgraded to high-end audiophile caps and op-amps, redesigned the power supply and made board modifications to create the Z-Series LX amps. Not only did they top the car audio competitions, but many a home speaker makers even brought their speakers to the Zapco CES suite to demonstrate what their speakers could do. The LX was beating their demo home amplifiers in both sound quality and output. So post this accomplishment how did Zapco respond? It simply replied with “thank you but we think we can do even better”. Fast forward to today and it has! Just recently it designed an amplifier range able to set new sound quality standards for both home and car sound reproduction. That series is the legendary Z-AP series.
The Ultimate SQ Amplifiers
Designed by listening as much as measuring; the Z-AP range of amplifiers set new sound quality standards for both home and car sound reproduction. Home you ask? Absolutely! In home or in car, the job of an amplifier is the same; pure, accurate sonic reproduction. The only difference is the power supply. If you really want to hear what your home speakers can do, get a AC~DC power supply and a Zapco Z-Series AP amplifier. Then you’ll know why your car system can sound better than your home system.
Supreme Engineering
So how did the Zapco engineers do it? Put succinctly; the engineering team took the best of the LX amp and tweaked the circuitry. They had proprietary electrolytic caps made to their specs for the supply section. In the Signal path they replaced the electronic with high-end WIMA poly caps. They used a new low noise, audio op-amp for the input stage and the smoothest audio op-amp it could find for the signal path (the right op-amp for the right job). They doubled the output drivers and increased the operating voltage of the matched final output devices. To get heat off the output devices faster, and increase efficiency, they used a new insulator material developed for aerospace. At the differential input stage they used 0.1% resistors. Not 1%, but 0.1%! This assures the lowest possible noise floor. They developed their own patented, multi ground RCA connectors with extra heavy gold plating for perfect signal transfer. They even improved the low noise gain pots had added detents to make level matching a breeze.
Comeliness To Die For
To top it all off the range was given new fresh look, a blend of matte-black finish and solid copper plate with the logo and serial number right up front. The result is the ultimate SQ amplifier, designed listening ears as much as by measuring. In these designs Zapco gets the smoothest and purest overall sound quality, whilst at the same time a ultra-high signal to noise ratio thus ensures you get all that pure sound quality in even the quietest of musical passages.
