Founded in 1983 by Zvone Raspor, ZR Speaker Lab is a small company specialising in the production of ultra-high-quality hand-built speakers and audio devices. Based in Slovenia in Europe; ZR Speaker Lab manufactures products from only the finest quality materials and although it's production runs are limited, its components have become recognised worldwide for their unique sound and design.

Zvone started out working in simple speaker service, which gradually evolved into speaker modification. During his tenure he's modified tens of thousands of speakers and other audio devices, giving him a rock-solid foundation and powerful insight into every possible facet of speaker design and implementation. Today Zvone translates this into designing, construction and testing; building drivers to suit those more boutique aural requirements.

Hand Crafted Mastery
The Saturn is an outstanding high-end hand-crafted tweeter, based on ZR-25N. It has a triplet of neodymium magnets which produce very accurate transients and higher velocity of frequency following.

More Than Just The Highs
Many people mistakenly think that the sound of the tweeter is important only above the low-cut frequency. To achieve the best sound-stage possible, the tweeter should be in tune with the mid-woofer and supporting it. They must work together in harmony. During the development of the Saturn immense research was invested into solving this problem.

Housing The Wizardry
The housing of Saturn allows the tweeter to be vertically moved up to +/- 30 degrees after installation. This means that the sound-beam of the tweeter can be adjusted, enabling the achievement of the perfect listening point at any distance. This massively improves linearity and makes the sound much clearer and more natural.

Superior Dynamics
It is designed to display great dynamics, yet its sound is not aggressive at all. The vocal of the singer can be heard so pure and rich in detail, just as if the singer was right in front of you. The massive improvement compared with other tweeters can be heard in the sound of cymbals. With most of the tweeters, when the drummer hits the cymbal with the stick, you can only hear a ear-ringing hissing sound. With the Saturn you can hear and almost feel the strike. The sound expands in the room and floats around you long after the strike. When the voice of the singer is soft and gentle, Saturn projects it perfectly with its natural-silk cone. The sound of this tweeter is so unique and recognizable, that it cannot be matched by any other tweeter on the market.

Design Features
When holding any ZR Speaker Lab speaker you’ll instantly discover that it is something special. Everything from it’s fundamental design through to its finish reeks of meticulous craftsmanship. We canvass some of these advanced technologies below.

The Frames And Baskets
The frames and baskets are made from Stabilit and a special brass / aluminum alloy. The construction is sandwich-like, which completely eliminates all parasitic resonances. This is prerequisite for linearity and low distortions. It is made from twenty-two components and assembled entirely by hand. The speaker itself is made from more than thirty components. Top and bottom parts of the basket are made from Stabilit and joined together with screws. ZR Speaker Lab is the first ever to use this innovative technology.

Stabilit is the resin impregnated paper. 10 mm thick Stabilit equates to one-hundred layers of paper. The layers of paper and resin are pressed together under high temperature and pressure. It has the following advantages:
– It is resistant to acid, moisture, and erosion.
– Its characteristics do not change with temperature. This is especially important in car-audio where temperature fluctuations are large.
– It is elastic and mechanically very strong.
– It is not affected by the magnetic field. The basket itself also doesn’t interfere with the magnetic field of the magnetic motor.
– It is a resonance killer.

The Motor
The motor is the result of many years of experience and experimentation, combined with the latest technology. Iron parts are laser-cut and further processed by the hand. The tolerances are approximately 0.025 mm, which is almost Swiss-watch precision when compared with the conventional magnets. This process can only be implemented in small quantities by hand, because it is not profitable for mass production.

The base of the magnetic motor is an already magnetized ferrite or neodymium magnet. The iron parts are glued to the magnet. Because the magnet is already magnetized, it pulls iron parts and glue to itself, so almost perfect contact could be attained. In this way, the magnetic field in air gap is the most powerful.

The Voice Coil
It is hand-wound and made in a special process developed by ZR Speaker Lab. H class cold copper wire is wound on the warm aluminum former, which extends at high-temperature. When the complete voice-coil cools down to the room-temperature, the filling factor of the wound is almost perfect. Because of that, these speakers have extraordinary dynamic, and give the impression of being very loud at very low power of the amplifier. They effortlessly follow its amplitudes and transmit all micro and macro details.

The Phase Plug
The woofers implement a wooden phase plug finished with six layers of lacquer. This increases the width and linearity of the mid-high spectrum. It enables ZR Speaker Lab engineers to achieve open and clear sound in the mid sound spectrum, which is also the uniqueness of these speakers.

The Cooling System
It reduces the compression of air between the spider and magnet. Because of this, the speaker breathes easier. In this way, it is possible to achieve better dynamic that is combined with quicker and more precise bass section. It also cools the voice coil, which additionally increases the power of the speaker.

The Copper Rings
The copper ring is specially modified by ZR Speaker Lab to be in harmony with its speakers’ motor designs. It makes the magnetic field in air gap more linear. This eliminates distortions which are present especially at higher output levels. It also reduces the inductance of the voice-coil, which widens the frequency range of the speaker.

Cone Coatings
To give the speakers a more natural sound, each cone is impregnated with several layers of specially designed mineral coatings. Each coating is independently developed by ZR Speaker Lab to suit each particular speaker model. Most of the time, more than one coating is necessary to achieve the perfect results. With the use of correct coating it is possible to eliminate undesired characteristics of the cone such as parasitic resonances, distortions etc.

Exotic Finishes
The speakers designed and constructed by ZR Speaker Labs can be finished in a range of finished and colours. Brushed alloy, black anodised, polished alloy; you name it. ZR Speaker Lab engineers can work it for you.

Certificate Of Authenticity
Every product of ZR Speaker Lab comes with a certificate of authenticity. On each certificate speaker model and the date of its production are marked. After a strict inspection it is personally signed by Zvone Raspor and carefully placed inside the casing of the speaker. Thus marking your speakers as utterly unique.
