When astute Norwegian based speaker designer Seas ceased production of its Lotus series subwoofers, what little stock remained in Australia was quickly snapped up. This left a void for the Lotus component speakers, which have remained in production. There is light at the end of the tunnel however folks; with the annunciation that Seas’ latest subwoofer range, aptly named the Extreme series; will soon arrive in Australia.

Featuring meticulously shaped machined aluminium cones, thermally efficient formers and voice coils, powerful FEA optimised high-density flux ferrite magnetic structures and inert cast alloy baskets; the Extreme range has been meticulously developed to change your existing subsonic perspectives. The reciprocating elements are supported by an advanced EROM suspension array, resulting in vastly more excursion compared to previous offerings hitherto. These components work in harmony providing astounding accuracy, superb linearity and a very deep F3 bottom-end extension.

The Extreme stable includes 8” / 200 mm and 10″ / 250 mm subwoofers, available with various voice coil layer arrangements and impedances. Meaning whatever your configuration requirements you’ll achieve that beautifully articulate subbass you’re looking for. For pricing, availability information, technical sheets and photos aplenty please pay a visit to our webstore. You’re also welcome to shoot us an email should you require further information not found via that link.

One other infamy bestowed upon Seas relates to its substantial part numbers. Before you have a conniption though let us explain. They are as follows:
– XM011–04 / L22ROY2-04 is the 8″ subwoofer with Ti former and 4 Ohm voice coil.
– XM011–08 / L22ROY2-08 is the 8″ subwoofer with Ti former and 8 Ohm voice coil.
– XM001–04 / L26ROY is the 10″ silver aluminium cone with Gf former and two-layer coil.
– XM004–04 / L26RO4Y is the 10″ silver aluminium cone with Ti former and four-layer coil.
– XM007–04 / L26ROY3 is the 10″ black aluminium cone with Gf former and two-layer coil.
– XM006–04 / L26RO4Y2 is the 10″ black aluminium cone with Ti former and four-layer coil.

As a post script; people often ask whether they should use the dual or quad layer version. Digging around the internet reveals endless discussions containing the standard useless, starkly-contrasting opinions. Without getting bogged down in endless techno-babble; the four layer version boasts a higher BL (force factor), to the detriment of higher inductance. The quad layer also has a heavier moving mass, conducive to a lower Fc (resonant frequency of a sealed system). However Seas has stiffened up the suspension to support the higher Mms on the quad layer. Mms is the moving mass of entire piston assembly, or Mmd plus the air load. The dual layer has less inductance modulation hence lower distortion. Or to put it in plain English based on in-car experience if you can’t be bothered deciphering all that; just run a sealed enclosure with the dual layer version.
