Design Ideologies
When designing the superb SD range of amplifiers, the engineering team at Audio Dynamics faced some challenges. For they needed big power, far more than most models within this market tier provide. They also required serious performance specifications to keep at top of the game. These goals however are difficult to achieve however without encountering issues pertaining to thermal dynamics, serious current requirements and enormous footprints.
The Class Within
The answer was to develop a special switching technology within the fundamental design, essentially starting with a class D foundation before affecting various improvements to the circuit design. This vastly improved topology reduced the need for titanic heat dissipation by making them ultra-efficient, all without sacrificing any musicality or clarity. Their power output, ancillary specifications and physical footprints combine to make the SD amplifiers most impressive units.
Thermal Dynamics
For an amplifier to provide high power and musicality, efficiency and heat dissipation are two essential qualities. To optimise these aspects the SD amplifiers have been designed with a serious aluminium chassis. The distribution of the components on the motherboard was also carefully researched to optimise the cooling capacity of the chassis. The careful selection of components such as switching power supply, oversized toroidal transformers, high-quality capacitors and so on; these have all made it possible to create powerful but ultra-compact amplifiers offering excellent musicality without compromise. So proud of the design is Audio Dynamics, you’ll see various photos showcase the internal design; something most amplifier designers are too embarrassed to even reveal.
