Design Ideologies
Within the European competition scene, DLS’ superb Reference range is often referred to as being the world’s best car speaker kits. It’s easy to see why. For with their powerful hybrid woofer cones, inert baskets, refined tweeters and high quality components; competitors are few and far between within this modest price bracket.
The Technology Within
DLS knows that the small details eventually make a difference, therefore it always keeps that in mind when designing and developing new products. One perfect example of this is the DLS original design; the anti-vibration penta basket. When the magnet motor of a speaker can work without being affected by external vibrations, the sound becomes tighter and clearer. In the DLS penta basket design, the strong steel basket is reinforced by precision pressed structures running on the sides of each pillar, creating a very rigid assembly plane for the magnet. To further cancel out resonant vibrations the asymmetrical shape with five pillars rather than the usual four. This also plays an important role in avoiding mechanical structure standing waves.
The M369 features genuine quality components, far better than their price might suggest. They also feature powerful magnets, modest mounting depths, light yet rigid carbon fibre cone woofers which has a special profile to improve midrange through to higher range frequency dispersion characteristics. The ultra-clean pulp based midrange and soft silk dome tweeter work together with a high-grade component crossover give you all the bass power, clarity and warmth that define DLS speakers.
Design Features
DLS engineering is beyond reproach. The impressive amount of technologies it injects into every single component design is astounding. Hence let’s delve further into but a handful below.
Strong Cone
In use since the first loudspeakers, the carbon hybrid cone on the woofer and pulp hybrid on the midrange continues to be an exceptional material of choice. DLS’ latest hybrid cones are ultra-lightweight, making them an exceptional pairing for drivers using smaller motors and voice coils.
Powerful Motor
DLS’ Reference series drivers utilise voice coils that’re more robust than those used in conventional loudspeakers, enabling improved heat dissipation, power handling and linearity. The motor design features a powerful magnetic motor system to control the voice coil, eliminating stray magnetic flux by effectively directing all the magnetic energy to the voice coil. The drivers also feature copper shorting rings, to further control the currents.
Crafted Soft Dome
A specially engineered damping compound is applied to the soft silk domes of the tweeters, adding rigidity and damping. This greatly improves the clarity and bandwidth of the drivers. The alloy diaphragm exhibits controlled cancelling break up, conducive to an extremely smooth overall frequency response.
