Design Ideologies
The ideology surrounding the conception of the 1000 series was to offer the ESB sound within very affordable speakers, all without sacrificing quality. Between design features like lightweight yet rigid cones, large voice coils able to handle high power and domes of silk driven by powerful neodymium magnets; the list is impressive insofar as features that make these speakers uncompromising.
Design Features
Despite their low asking price the 1000 series are still filled with some impressive technology, well beyond many of their peers. Let’s take a closer look at the components below.
Hitting Hard, Staying Strong
The stamped steel on the woofer is reinforced with gussets and powder coated in a black finish. Despite that some may suggest it’s only being stamped steel, nonetheless ESB hasn’t overlooked the design profile shape, ensuring all frames create the minimum amount of resistance to the airflow emanating from the rear side of the piston diaphragm.
Treated Paper Cones
The paper cone is the best marriage of lightness, stiffness and the ability of the cone to dampen any unwanted vibration. The waterproof treatment does not change the appearance and parameters of the speaker like the shiny polymers that add an appreciable amount of mass to the cone itself and significantly modify the sonic result. The treatment protects the cone from water dripping, such as that found inside your doors during rainy days, as well as accidental splashes on the front of the cone.
The Motor Within
The voice coil of the woofers uses an aluminium support and a winding with a double layer technology of copper wire with an aluminium core. The long stroke design was chosen to improve sensitivity and efficiency while keeping distortion to a minimum. All these speakers are equipped with a motor with a grade Y-25 ferrite magnet, a type of magnet with significantly higher performance than the standard strontium types. The metal parts of the engine use low carbon steel and have been designed to obtain the maximum magnetic saturation, this guarantees the best electroacoustic parameters.
The Delicate Tones
The 1000 series tweeters use a silk dome diaphragm for an ultra-smooth sound, with an outer suspension of the same material but covered with a high-loss damping material to eliminate edge vibration and resonance. The dome is of extremely low mass and is much less susceptible to mechanical deformation than other models, yet it provides a smooth, linear and very extended response.
The Treble Engine
The 25.4 mm voice coil has an aluminium support and very light copper-coated aluminium wire. It’s ventilated and damped with iron-fluid oil and with anti-resonance chambers. The special rear chamber design provides optimal cooling to be able to handle high power and avoiding compressing the air at the back of the dome; the result being a great reduction in distortion. High-grade neodymium magnets such as N-35, optimized with computer simulations to get better efficiency and improve linearity; ensure better power management and increase the bandwidth and efficiency.
