Design Ideologies
Just before we get into all things enclosures, please be aware that the cost listed here is a starting point. Prices for enclosures can vary vastly depending on what you require. Not only in shape and layout but in materials, trimming and more. For more information regarding what these different enclosure designs cost click here.
Why The Vast Cost Ballpark?
Some people ask why enclosure costs vary so much. It lies in the design, build and materials. Fhrx Studios’ enclosures are designed individually not only suit the subwoofer but also the car and listener involved. They’re usually constructed from structural or marine ply which is stronger and lighter than fiberboard but more expensive. They’re glued, screwed, stapled, sealed inside and out and are fully weather proofed with resin. They’re also coated internally with sound deadening to fight internal resonances and reverberations. Lastly, they also contain fiberfill to damp the enclosure. We usually trim them in carpet when we make them but they can be vinyled, painted, plated or whatever you want to do with it. Fundamental Configurations
Whilst enclosures come in many different shapes and sizes, they all align within one of the following fundamental designs. Either sealed, ported / vented or a specific order of bandpass.
That All Important Qtc Specification
When designing enclosures one of the most important aspects to be taken into consideration is its Qtc measurement. Put simply; the enclosure should really be designed specifically for your application, car and tastes. For further information about this click here.

– Indivudally designed to suit the car, the position, the subwoofer and the owner.
– Construction material is usually structural or marine ply, which is stronger and lighter than fiberboard.
– Can be constructed from more exotic materials such as fibreglass, alloys, plastics and even stone such as marble.
– Construction includes gluing, screwing, sealing inside and weather-proofed outside with resin.
– Internally they’re coated liberally with our sound deadening paint to fight internal resonances and reverberations.
– Fibrefill is included to damp the enclosure.
