Founded in 1975 by James Birch and Lucio Proni, hence the name; JL Audio has since become synonymous with the design and manufacture of superb quality car, marine and home audio components. Though famous for its innovative subwoofer designs and unique subsonic methodology, the JL Audio stable has grown over the years to encompass everything from the speakers and subwoofers right through to processors, amplifiers and even combinations of the latter. W1v3 Series – Clandestine Subsonic Upgrades
Whether your car comes equipped with an entry level system or the flagship name-brand stereo; most would agree it could do with a better subsonic foundation. To that end the market is saturated with various upgrade options, with some being better than others. The focus of JL Audio's W1v3 range was to make it possible to upgrade your subsonic situation with as little interference and ado as possible. Designed with strong motor structures and lightweight cones, the W1v3 range of subwoofers are available in various sizes, to suit your bass desires.

Design Ideologies
The latest evolution of JL Audio’s superb W1 series subwoofers, the v3; are ideal for moderate power, small enclosure applications. The W1v3 series share many features with JL Audio’s premium subwoofers, including our innovative VRC™, Elevated Frame-Cooling and Floating Cone Attach Method™ technologies. As with JL Audio’s flagship drivers, development for these woofers was guided by JL Audio’s proprietary DMA modeling system to deliver superior dynamic stability and low distortion within their intended power envelope.

All Within The Making
A striking injection-molded, black mica-filled polypropylene cone is finished with an aluminum dust-cap with JL Audio logo to provide a classy look, while a removable (and customizable) mounting flange trim ring receives grille-mesh inserts (sold separately) directly, without the need for additional grille hardware. All this good stuff comes together to deliver output, sound quality and reliability that would be hard to find at twice the price!

Design Features
JL Audio’s engineering department is at the forefront of research into fundamental loudspeaker behaviour. It has developed proprietary analysis systems and invested heavily in state-of-the-art manufacturing and testing. This has borne numerous products widely considered as reference standards and has also resulted in many U.S. and International Patents issued for technologies that refine and extend the audio performance envelope. Many of these have found their way into the TW1 design. Let’s look a little closer at some of the key features.

Dynamic Motor Analysis
JL Audio’s proprietary Dynamic Motor Analysis system is a powerful suite of FEA-based modelling systems, first developed by JL Audio in 1997 and refined over the years to scientifically address the issue of speaker motor linearity. This leads to vastly reduced distortion and faithfully reproduced transients… or put simply: tight, clean, articulate bass.

Elevated Frame Cooling
JL Audio’s patented elevated frame cooling design delivers cool air through slots directly above the top plate to the voice coil of the speaker. This not only enhances power handling, but also sound quality by minimizing dynamic parameter shifts and power compression.

Engineered Lead-Wire System
Carefully engineered lead-wire design and attachments ensure controlled, quiet lead-wire behaviour under the most extreme excursion demands.

Insert Moulded Suspension / Coil / Terminal Sub-Assembly
The spiders, voice coils, terminals and lead wires are preassembled using a patented process; onto a composite carrier for improved precision and reliability.

Floating Cone Attach Method
This assembly technique, conceived by JL Audio; ensures proper surround geometry in the assembled speaker for better excursion control and dynamic voice coil alignment.

Vented Reinforcement Collar
JL Audio’s vented reinforcement collar (VRC®) improves the rigidity and stability of the cone / spider / voice coil junction and directs airflow over the voice coil windings for improved thermal performance.

Customizable Trim Ring
This removable ring can be painted to match the installation theme. It is designed to hold the JL Audio grille mesh inserts perfectly. These grilles are sold separately.
