Design Ideologies
Morel’s superb Ultimo PowerSlim subwoofers redefine what’s possible in the world of bass reproduction, juxtaposed with the consumption of minimal space. From their compact yet powerful architecture through to their state-of-the-art engineering and flawless construction; the Ultimo PowerSlim drivers are an unrivaled force within the realm of shallow subwoofers.
Proof Positive Morel Is A Master
A rock solid testament to their design, the Ultimo PowerSlim subwoofers were bestowed the esteemed EISA Best In-Car Subwoofer award for 2023 – 2024. This astute accolade reinforces Morel’s relentless commitment to pioneering audio technology and delivering unparalleled sonic encounters.
No Compromise Design
In developing these no-compromise shallow subwoofers, much inspiration was taken from lessons learnt through the renowned Ultimo Titanium range, reimagined to deliver the ultimate bass performance in a compact space. At the heart of the Ultimo PowerSlim is Morel’s world famous advanced external voice coil (EVC) motor technology featuring a massive 5.1 inch diameter voice coil. Its large size, combined with the use of lightweight aluminum Hexatech voice coil wire, gives it a power handling ability that’s simply unrivaled in the shallow subwoofer category. This allows it to exert superb control and linearity; thus ensuring a rich, accurate and dynamic bass experience.
When Size Matters
The Ultimo PowerSlim subs are indeed slim. Available in various sizes, their mounting depth measures between 78 mm 86 mm. This is made possible with the development of Morel’s uniflow die-cast aluminium chassis, unique progressive field symmetry (PFS) suspension, and a meticulously designed HexaCore carbon fiber and aluminum honeycomb flat piston cone. These components were maximized to provide remarkable excursion for high output in the most compact of dimensions.
The uncompromising design of the Ultimo PowerSlim series redefines the shallow subwoofer category. They deliver everything you expect in your bass in nearly half the space.
Design Features
Morel engineering is simply beyond reproach. The sheer amount of technologies it injects into every single Morel design is simply astounding. We outline but a few of them below.
HexaCore Fiber Flat Cone
Morel’s HexaCore carbon fiber flat cone features an ultra-strong aerospace-derived design with a honeycomb aluminum core sandwiched between two layers of woven carbon fiber sheets. This results in an exceptional balance between weight and strength, accompanied by an outstanding damping factor that produces unparalleled audio clarity and realism.
EVC Motor
Morel speakers with EVC technology utilize voice coils that are up to three times larger than those used in conventional loudspeakers, enabling improved heat dissipation, power handling and linearity. The EVC design moves the magnetic motor system to within the voice coil, eliminating stray magnetic flux by effectively directing all the magnetic energy to the voice coil. The EVC architecture is over 90% more efficient than conventional design, magnetically shielded, and highly compact.
DMM Motor
Morel’s double drive system generates more magnetic energy than a single magnet of similar size, increasing efficiency and the dynamic range. The position of the secondary magnet fixed above the top plate in the motor is the key in controlling stray magnetic flux, thus generating a more focused magnetic field while also contributing to the shielded characteristic of our speakers.
Hexatech Aluminium Voice Coil
Made from 100 % aluminum wire shaped like a honeycomb, the Hexatech voice coil reduces air gaps in the coil windings, thereby increasing efficiency by up to 20 %. Being lightweight, Hexatech voice coils are largely responsible for the extraordinary fast transient response Morel drive units are known for.
Titanium Voice Coil Former
Titanium bobbins, or former or body; are known for their high rigidity, light weight, superior heat dissipation and conductive characteristics. Morel’s research and development team was able to decrease eddy currents inside the magnetic gap, improve heat dissipation considerably, lower distortion and improve power handling. Despite the tremendous cost and new sophisticated manufacturing processes, it delivers a tonally balanced, highly accurate, and exceptionally fast transient transducer.
Uniflow Chassis
Uses an open design that is aerodynamically efficient, allowing air and sound waves to flow uniformly and smoothly. Its geometric shape also eliminates interference with the woofer’s moving components, enabling the use of a low-profile spider for greater support and stability.
