Sony - More Legendary Than Kaiju
To some the name Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Corporation may be a little foreign, if you'll excuse the pun. However if you change that name to its more common moniker Sony you'll quickly find it's a challenging to locate an audio enthusiast on planet earth who's not heard of it. This astute company was established in 1946 in Japan, and since that time continues to steadily grow its market through the development and deployment of quality electronic equipment; to such a point today that this behemoth is beyond ubiquitous. As you'd correctly assume though; one doesn't grow to such an impressive size due to good luck or guess work. Since conception Sony has continued to innovate, create, design and produce some of the worlds most advanced concepts and technology. Indeed to this day the company continues to lead most other designers as it forges through uncharted territory in the relentless pursuit of aural and visual perfection.

ES Series - World Leaders In Aural Control
Sony electronics enjoys worldwide notoriety for developing high-quality, durable and yet affordable products. Even its flagship offerings, like the astute ES range of car audio equipment; are not beyond us mere fiscal mortals. Sony's recognition for making high-end products at affordable prices didn't occur without just cause, with ranges like the RS range demonstrating why. Not overly keen on venturing off into the twilight zone fiscally speaking; most realistic price points have seen Sony products dominate the market for decades now. This is despite ever-growing pressure from competing brands, both within the Japanese domestic market and far abroad. The Sony car audio stable is a considerable one, offering everything from receivers and amplifiers through to speakers and subwoofers. Put succinctly; if you're facing audio challenge, Sony will have the answer for you.

Design Ideologies
Sony’s marketing spiel starts with the usual “bring new life to your in-car listening experience with the Sony’s superb ES series” and so on. Blah, blah, blah; we’ve heard this all before. However as a company that tests and reviews subwoofers aplenty here can we strongly recommend you stop, take a breath and actually take a good look at this new ES range? Because to say they’re incredible would be underselling them. Featuring a rock-solid motor structure, advanced cooling system, light yet strong diaphragm and smart suspension design; these workhorses will give you greater accuracy and articulation in your sub bass, with a smoother and richer response. Not just in the top end of the bass but also right down into those low subsonic regions. Seriously people; at this price point these may be the best subwoofers Sony has ever produced.

Design Features
When listening to the beautiful tones of Sony’s exquisite ES range you can tell immediate there is some unique and groundbreaking about them. Their clarity, their cleanliness, their power and their superb response. Just everything about the range just reeks with aural superiority. Ergo without further ado let’s have a look at what makes them so special shall we?

Cellular Honeycomb Diaphragm
Lightweight rigid cellular (formerly known as MRC) diaphragm material is further enhanced via a honeycomb fibre structure, for unmatched rigidity and responsiveness. Enhancements over the years of diaphragm material development produced a driver ten times more rigid than conventional PP matrix cones, for natural low-distortion sound and a wide frequency response.

Separated Notch Edge Surround
The woofer surround features another proprietary Sony technology, with distinctive curved notches improving the vertical amplitude symmetry. This dramatically reduces distortion and enhanced clarity.

Structure And Venting
The five beam frame design disperses resonance while the integrated dynamic air diffuser ensures efficient air circulation for smooth cone travel and cooling of the voice coil.

Progressive Height Rate Spider
The acoustically-optimised spider allows for higher power handling and airflow, with a profile designed for more rapid and precise cushioning of the speaker cone. To increase signal integrity and prevent sound interference, the lead wire from the voice coil is also sewn to the spider; thus reducing wire movement.

Gold-plated Input Terminals
Gold plated spring terminals allow up to 10 Awg speaker cables to be plumbed in.
