Design Ideologies
The latest evolution of the TM8 loudspeaker is a completely new low distortion driver designed with finite element analysis (FEA) in North Carolina. Dedicated to keeping the legendary TM8 aggressive midbass performance while also providing smooth midrange with on-axis extension out to 4500 Hz.
Custom Tooling, Custom Design
The latest TM8 uses a custom tooled cast aluminum basket with an integrated rain shield and a very shallow mounting depth of only 2.3″ / 58.3 mm. Twin shorting rings, i.e. one copper pole sleeve and one magnet ID ring; lowers and linearises inductance for an Xmax to Le ratio only found in significantly higher priced loudspeakers. And with its 7 mm of Xmax via 70% BL one-way the TM8 keeps the pant-leg-slapping midbass that you are used to with the previous versions but with smoother sound reproduction largely due to its 50 mm diameter CZA former voice coil with solid copper windings mated to the pure aluminum cone body.
The Power Up Top
The pure aluminum cone body was carefully designed with the best strength-to-weight ratio to allow for proper frequency extension and strength for midbass / deep bass extension. Perhaps most importantly is the pure copper voice coil, CZA former and aluminum cone also offering tremendous thermal advantages as they all work in tandem to extract and disperse heat from the voice coil which increases thermal power handling.
Design For Installation Ease
Stereo Integrity designed the TM8 with a higher-than-average Qts. The main install location for these speakers is in a vehicle door. A vehicle door is a very lossy enclosure that closely mimics an infinite baffle alignment. To achieve the most performance from an infinite baffle alignment you want your Qts to be as close to the ideal 0.707 Qtc alignment of a sealed enclosure, which is why the TM8’s Qts is in the 0.8 region. With the Qts close to a 0.7 it yields the best combination of low-frequency extension and natural output capability. The TM65 MKIV is for those who want a plethora of midbass capability without sacrificing mounting depth and / or price.
Midrange Fluidity
Midrange fluidity is presented with the TM8’s smooth frequency response up to 4500 Hz off-axis. Couple the TM8 to with the M3 Carbon loudspeaker or just the M25 MKII tweeter and you have a formidable front stage capable of performance that rivals that of systems that are priced 300% to 600% higher. Why pay more for similar performance when you can spend less and obtain better performance?
Anechoic Response
Anechoic frequency response is 27 Hz to 7000 Hz on-axis. Recommended frequency response is 40 Hz to 4500 Hz with the use of high-pass and low-pass crossovers.
