Design Ideologies
Like all fourth generation K2 Power kits, the ES165KX2E system enhances on-board listening. This component set consists of two 6.5″ woofers with a K2 cone. Made of aramid fibre, this exclusive Focal cone promises to deliver rich and striking sound. Combined with the central phase plug that guarantees better sound dispersion within the passenger compartment, in-car listening becomes truly thrilling. Equipped with an aluminium/magnesium cone, the ‘M’ shaped inverted dome FRAK tweeters offer an ultra-realistic sound. Coupled with bi-ampable audiophile crossovers they enable perfect control of the high frequencies, reproducing super smooth and defined treble. The listening experience is marked by unparalleled harmonic balance. Thanks to their angled brackets, the tweeters will fit seamlessly into the passenger compartment.
Design Features
The rich heritage of this astute company, together with its ever-increasing technical acumen; is conducive to these components featuring a vast array of impressive design ideologies and latest technological advancements.
The K2 Sandwich Cone
Providing purity and precision of sound. The diaphragm, the key component of a loudspeaker; is at the heart of Focal’s acoustic engineers’ research. Shape and materials are essential for high-fidelity reproduction. In 1986, Focal engineers unveiled the aramid fibre sandwich membrane, recognizable by its unique yellow color. It has been extensively renewed over the years, while retaining the characteristics that made it such a success. Today, it consists of an ultra-light foam core sandwiched between a layer of aramid fibre and a layer of glass fibre. It combines the three key factors of a loudspeaker membrane: rigidity, lightness and damping, for a precise, dynamic and uncolored sound.
TMD® Surround
The ultimate in stabilised surrounds, conducive to eliminating vibrations. While the Focal engineers are experts in the development of exclusive diaphragms, they also innovate in all the components that make up the loudspeakers, such as the surround that connects the diaphragm to the frame, the performance of which must be mastered. Introduced in 2015, Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) technology with harmonic damping consists of the addition of finely positioned toroidal weights to stabilize the surround for even greater sonic neutrality. This technology enhances the midrange and the erratic behavior of the surround between 1 kHz and 2 kHz.
FRAK Tweeeter Design
Some of the K2 Power Evo kits are equipped with Focal’s ‘M’ shaped FRAK tweeter. A revolution in car audio, it combines aluminium and magnesium for good frequency lowering and superb damping. Its lightness helps it shine when playing the higher registers.
Superb Linearity And Precision
The progressive spider on the K2 Power Evo speaker drivers is built around a progressive section to reproduce all the impact of the bass and increase the linearity, precision and dynamics of the sound.
Increased Pressure Levels
The Radial VC cooling system for the speaker driver coil expels hot air from the coil towards the bottom of the motor through multiple holes. This improves control over the coil temperature, limiting the effects of heat compression and improving reliability. This improves the dynamics of the speaker driver and generates a powerful sound.
Optimised Crossover Design
Optimised filters provide for a higher performing sound-stage. Every element of a loudspeaker is important. Thus Focal engineers focus on every component, including the crossovers. Crossovers provide each loudspeaker with a signal that enables it to work at its best in the frequency range for which it is designed. For K2 Power kits, all crossover components have been specifically selected and optimised to better control heat dissipation effects, and manage channels and sound-stage with reliability and performance.
